Philip Ng é um ator que respeito muito desde que o vi pela primeira vez na novela "WING CHUN 2007" na qual interpreta o jovem Mestre de Ip Man , Cham Wah Sun (Jaau Chin Wa). Porém , foram suas participações na série jornalistica "KUNG FU QUEST' que me fizeram admirá-lo como artista marcial.

O nativo de Hong Kong Philip Ng foi escalado como um jovem Bruce Lee em um novo filme de George Nolfi chamado "Birth of the Dragon"(ainda sem titulo em português). Enquanto que o ator chinês  Yu Xia vai interpretar o  Mestre Wong Jack Man. Isso tudo foi anunciado segunda-feira.
Groundswell Productions está produzindo o filme, que começa nesta terça-feira a produção em Vancouver, British Columbia.
"Birth of the Dragon" recria a luta de meados da década de 1960 entre Lee e Wong, do ponto de vista de um jovem estudante de artes marciais, Steve McKee (Billy Magnussen, "Into the Woods"), cuja fidelidade tornou-se dividida entre a dupla. Sobre este dia, as pessoas ainda discutem sobre quem venceu a famosa luta, mas uma coisa é certa - após sua batalha com Wong, Bruce Lee reinventou a si mesmo e seu estilo de kung fu.


Hong Kong-born Philip Ng has been cast as a young Bruce Lee in George Nolfi’s martial arts action movie “Birth of the Dragon,” while Mainland Chinese actor Yu Xia will play Shaolin Master Wong Jack Man, it was announced Monday.
Groundswell Productions is producing the movie, which starts production on Tuesday in Vancouver, British Columbia.
“Birth of the Dragon” recreates the mid-1960’s fight between Lee and Wong from the point of view of a young martial arts student, Steve McKee (Billy Magnussen, “Into the Woods”) whose allegiance became torn between the duo. To this day, people still argue about who won the famous fight, but one thing is certain — after his battle with Wong, Bruce Lee reinvented himself and his style of kung fu.

A atriz chinesa Jinging Qu interpreta o interesse amoroso de Magnussen, Xiulan. O vilão do filme, um brutal criminoso chamado Tio Blossom, será interpretado pelo  artista chinês e anfitrião icônico de TV Jin Xing - que será um transexual.
Wong permaneceu em silêncio sobre a luta por muitos anos e se aposentou do ensino de artes marciais em 2005, após 45 anos. Ele está atualmente com 75 anos e vive na área da baía de Hong Kong.
Ng foi criado em Chicago, onde sua família é proprietária de um estúdio de artes marciais bem sucedido. Em seus primeiros vinte anos, Ng retornou a Hong Kong para tentar uma carreira em filmes de artes marciais.

Nomeados para o Oscar como Christopher Wilkinson e Stephen J. Rivele ("Nixon", "Ali") escreveram "Birth of a Dragon", que está sendo financiado por Kylin Films. O filme está sendo produzido pelo indicado ao Oscar e vencedor do Globo de Ouro Michael London e seu parceiro de produção Janice Williams, junto com Wilkinson, Rivele e de Kylin James H. Pang.


Chinese actress Jinging Qu plays Magnussen’s love interest, Xiulan. The movie’s villain, a ruthless crime boss named Auntie Blossom, will be played by iconic Chinese artist and TV host Jin Xing — who happens to be a transsexual.
Wong remained silent about the fight for many years and retired from teaching martial arts in 2005 after 45 years. He’s currently 75 years old and lives in the Bay Area.
Ng was raised in Chicago where his family owns a successful martial arts studio. In his early twenties, Ng returned to Hong Kong to pursue a career in martial arts films.

Oscar nominees Christopher Wilkinson and Stephen J. Rivele (“Nixon,” “Ali”) wrote “Birth of a Dragon,” which is being financed by Kylin Films. The movie is being produced by Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner Michael London and his producing partner Janice Williams, along with Wilkinson, Rivele and Kylin’s James H. Pang.

O filme de Nolfi tem produção executiva de Leo Shi Young e David Nicksay, enquanto Helen Y. Zhong, Jaeson Ma e Joel Viertel (que também está editando o filme) vai servir como co-produtores.
Seqüências de ação do filme serão projetadas pelo renomado coreógrafo de artes marciais Corey Yuen, um graduado da Escola de Ópera de Pequim. Os créditos de Yuen incluem  "X-Men"(2000), "Máquina Mortífera 4"(1998) e seis de obras americanas de Jet Li, incluindo "Romeo Must Die"(2000) e "The Expendables"(2010).

"'Birth of the Dragon" é uma rara oportunidade para fazer um filme de ação com personagens ricos baseados em fatos reais e pessoas reais. É uma história sobre pessoas do Oriente e do Ocidente então precisamos transcender nossas diferenças para trabalhar juntos, o que é obviamente uma história muito oportuna ", acrescentou Nolfi.




Nolfi with executive produce with Leo Shi Young and David Nicksay, while Helen Y. Zhong, Jaeson Ma and Joel Viertel (who is also editing the film) will serve co-producers.
The film’s action sequences will be designed by renowned martial arts choreographer Corey Yuen, a graduate of the Peking Opera School. Yuen’s credits include the original “X-Men,” “Lethal Weapon 4” and six of Jet Li‘s American works, including “Romeo Must Die” and “The Expendables.”
“We’re thrilled to be telling one of the great untold stories in martial arts history, especially at this unique moment when China and Western audiences are opening up to each other as never before,” said London. “To work with a Chinese film company like Kylin on a story that has so much significance in China has been a wonderful collaboration, and, we hope, the first of many.”
“‘Birth of the Dragon’ is a rare opportunity to make an action film with rich characters based on real events and real people. It’s a story about people from the East and West transcending their differences to work together, which is obviously a very timely story,” added Nolfi.

Kylin was represented in the financing transaction by Ed Labowitz of Alexander, Lawrence, Frumes & Labowitz, and Groundswell by David Boyle.
